This article aims to analyze the types of surgical diseases and treatments in ancient China as documented in bamboo and silk texts, with a particular focus on Yong(obstruction-illness, 癰)․ Ju(impediment illness, 疽), Ma(㾺), Chuangyang(瘡瘍)․Painful sore(惡瘡), Freezing cold injury. For this analysis, I gathered 39 instances of disease and treatments recorded in these texts. The 39 cases were further categorized into 21 Yong․ Ju, 3 Ma(㾺), 10 Chuangyang(瘡瘍)․Painful sore(惡瘡) and 5 Freezing cold injury. First, I examined which medicinal ingredients were used to treat these diseases in Bamboo and Silk Texts. Through this, I was able to determine that Bamboo and Silk Texts used 24 medicinal ingredients for Yong disease, 39 medicinal ingredients for Ju, 1 medicinal ingredients for disinfection of Yong․ Ju, 6 medicinal ingredients for Ma, 25 medicinal ingredients for Chuangyang(瘡瘍)․Painful sore(惡瘡) and 6 medicinal ingredients for Freezing cold injury. Furthermore, I discovered that ancient texts describe 24 distinct methods of processing the aforementioned medicinal herbs for disinfection, consumption, or application to wounds. And I discovered that these processed medicinal ingredients were administered in various forms—such as gels, juices, medicinal liquids, and pills—depending on the disease. |
