Achievements and Future Tasks of Research on Overseas Chinese and Ethnic Chinese of Korean Peninsular Focusing on Korean Academia

Abstract 

 This paper aims to introduce the achievements and suggests future tasks of research on Overseas Chinese and Ethnic Chinese of Korean Peninsular(OCECKP) focusing on Korean academia. Overseas Chinese and Ethnic Chinese of Korean Peninsular includes Overesea Chinese of Modern Korea, Overseas Chinese of South Korea, Overseas Chinese of North Korea, Hanhwa(Re-immigrated Ethnic Chinese from South Korea to world), and Returned Oveseas Chinese from North Korea. Old Overseas Chinese of OCECKP refers to Chinese who had immigrated and were living in South Korea before the establishment of diplomatic relations between South Korea and People’s Republic of China in 1992.

 On the other hand, New Overseas Chinese of OCECKP refers to Chinese who had immigrated from mainland China after 1992. The research achievements amounted approximately to 400 papers published in Korea academia from 1945 to the first half of 2024. This paper referred to 150 concerned papers and books who account for 38% of the total. Introduction of their research achievements will be categorized into economic and social fields to be presented on the main isseus. The last part of this paper will suggest future research tasks on Overseas Chinese and Ethnic Chinese of Korean Peninsular.
