Editorial Board Policy for Chung-Ang Saron

Article 1

The following policy is intended to stipulate matters related to the editing and screening of the Institute for Historical Studies at Chung-Ang University’s Chung-Ang Saron and to observe discipline in editing and screening.

 

Article 2

This journal deals with and publishes the following content:

1. Articles (including special theme articles)

2. Comments (including retrospect, prospect, and other essays) and book reviews

3. Introduction of materials and sources

4. Other academic writings in accordance with the intent of the Institute

 

Article 3

This journal is published biannually, and publication dates are June 30 and December 31.

 

Article 4

To perform the task of editing and screening for this journal, an editorial committee shall be formed based on the policy of the Institute for Historical Studies at Chung-Ang University. The editorial board members are appointed by the chief of the Institute, according to the recommendation of a senior researcher.

1. The editorial committee consists of about 15 members, including the editor-in-chief, editorial board members, and assistants, and it maintains balance among specialists in Korean, Eastern, and Western history.

2. The editor-in-chief is elected from among the editorial board members.

3. The term of an editorial board member is two years, but it can be renewed.

4. Meetings of the editorial committee are held more than twice a year with attendance of more than half of the members.

5. Decisions of the editorial committee are made following approval of two-thirds of participants.

 

Article 5

The editorial committee shall deliberate and decide the following matters:

1. Planning and requesting articles and comments

2. First screening of articles

3. Appointment of judges who perform the second screening

4. Confirming and proceeding with articles that have passed the second screening

5. Other various matters about editing this journal

 

Article 6

The articles submitted to this journal are published through the screening process as follows:

1. First screening: The editorial committee evaluates suitability in terms of formality, field of study, and length of the manuscript. However, articles introduced in academic conferences are regarded as having passed the first screening.

2. Second screening: After appointing three specialists from a relevant field, the academic values are comprehensively assessed, and a final decision is made.

3. Planned articles written at the request of the Institute can be exempted from some parts of the screening process, as decided by the editorial committee.

4. The results of a screening are archived in the minutes of the editorial committee, but the names of the appointed judges shall be kept confidential.

 

Article 7

The main criteria for screening are as follows:

1. Studies pioneering new areas of study not covered previously

2. Studies or comments that suggest a new methodology or theory

3. Discoveries and introductions of new materials that can be helpful to studies in related fields

4. Studies that can improve the level of the academy

5. Studies that invested respectable effort and time into using and analyzing materials.

 

 

Article 8

The results of screening shall be determined as follows:

1. Judgments of screening are divided into four grades: Acceptance (A), Provisional acceptance with modifications (B), Re-assessment after modifications (C), and Rejection (D).

2. When the judges’ decisions mismatch, the process follows according to the below criteria:

AAA*AAB: Acceptance

AAD*ABD*ACD*ACC*BBD*BCC*CCC: Re-assessment after modifications

ADD*BCD*BDD*CCD*CDD*DDD: Rejection

3. The editorial committee can demand modifications by contributors as a result of screening, and the contributor should respond earnestly.

4. When an article is judged as a rejection (D), the editorial committee shall notify the contributor with a reason for the rejection.

5. When the author whose manuscript has been judged as a re-assessment after modifications (C) or a rejection (D) requests re-screening, it can then proceed following a resolution of the editing committee.

 

Article 9

To improve the quality of this journal, board members of the Institute can be asked for advice as follows:

1. Aim and publishing guidelines of the journal

2. Assessment of the contents of the published journal

 

Article 10

Matters not mentioned by this policy shall be decided by the editorial committee.

 

Supplement

1. The above policy applies from December 2000.

2. The revised policy applies from December 2007.

3. The re-revised policy applies from March 2010.

4. The re-revised policy applies from August 2017.
